Health Class : Health

The Health Curriculum is broken into two sections, High School Health (20 weeks) and 7th Grade Health (20 weeks).  The Health Curriculum is designed to follow the NYS Health Standards by the NYS Education Department. The following is the course descriptions for each course offering.

 

High School Health Education:  Course Overview Unit Titles

Middle School Health Education 7th Grade: Course Overview Unit Titles

 

·        A Healthy Foundation and making Responsible Decisions

·        Working Toward Peace (managing anger and resolving conflicts)

·        First Aid and Safety

·        Dangers of Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs

·        Nutrition

·        Adolescence and Responsibility

·        Understanding Communicable and Non Communicable Diseases

Health and Phys. Ed

Health Classroom Procedures:  The classroom environment for each class will be one in which encourages the participation of everyone through an open exchange of ideas. It is expected that all students value the opinions and input of their peers. No put downs will be allowed.

Phys. Ed Procedures: Each Student will have 5 Minutes to change into the proper clothing of shorts/sweats, t-shirt or sweat shirt, socks and sneakers. No Hats. Students need to be on time and marked for attendance and listen to the instructor for instructions for the day.

Standard Material Required: High School Health: A Notebook and Folder as well as a pen or pencil, Text will be provided. Students are required to have the course overview signed by a parent/guardian. Students are also required to keep their Course Portfolio up to date. Middle School Health (7th Grade):  Students are expected to have a folder with Loose-leaf paper a pen or pencil and the text will be provided. Folder and Text are expected to stay in the classroom.

Phys. Ed. Grading: Based on Achievement, Prepared, and Effort.
